Page 2 - HA- Counting on and sequence
P. 2

A sequence is a list of numbers that follow a pattern or rule.

               What is a Backward Sequence?

A backward sequence is a pattern where the numbers go down.

               How to Spot the Pattern?

                   • Look at the difference between numbers

                   • See what number is being subtracted

               Example Sequences:

               Back by 2s: 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, __
               Back by 5s: 50, 45, 40, 35, 30, __
               Back by 10s: 100, 90, 80, 70, __

               Learning Outcomes

               Students will be able to:

                   1. Accurately count backwards from a given number using different step sizes (1s, 2s,
                       5s, 10s).

                   2. Fill in the missing numbers in backward counting sequences.

                   3. Explain the rule of a backward number pattern.

                   4. Apply counting back in solving basic subtraction problems.

                   5. Demonstrate understanding through oral, written, or practical activities (e.g.,
                       number lines, games, worksheets).
