Learning Objectives
Students will be able to:
1. Understand the concept of multiplying whole numbers by 10 and 100.
2. Recognize patterns when multiplying numbers by 10 and 100 (place value shifts).
3. Apply rules to multiply whole numbers by 10 and 100 quickly.
4. Use multiplication facts to solve real-life word problems involving 10s and 100s.
What Does It Mean?
When we multiply a number by 10 or 100, the number becomes 10 times or 100 times
bigger.
Multiplying by 10
Rule: Add one zero to the end of the number.
• 3 × 10 = 30
• 7 × 10 = 70
• 12 × 10 = 120
• 45 × 10 = 450
Example:
If you have 4 groups of 10 pencils, you have:
4 × 10 = 40 pencils
Multiplying by 100
Rule: Add two zeros to the end of the number.
• 2 × 100 = 200
• 6 × 100 = 600
• 11 × 100 = 1100
• 20 × 100 = 2000
