Word Problem Examples:

                       Example (i): Multiplication Word Problem

A school has 6 classes and each class has 30
students. How many students are in total?

                    Solution: 1 class has 30 students

                       So, 6 classes will have students = 6 × 30 =
                       180 students

Hence, 180 students are in total.

               Example (ii): Division Word Problem

A shopkeeper has 48 candies and wants to divide them among 8 children.
How many candies does each child get?

                    Solution: 8 children get 48 candies

                                     So, 1 child will get candies =48 ÷ 8

                                                                         = 6 candies

Example (iii): Combined Multiplication and Division

A farmer has 5 baskets of apples. Each basket has 20 apples. He wants to
divide the apples equally among 10 people. How many apples will each
               person get?

                    Step 1 (Find total apples): 5 × 20 = 100 apples
                    Step 2 (Divide apples among people): 100 ÷ 10 = 10 apples per
                       person

Learning Objective: Students were able to apply multiplication and division
operations to solve a word problem.
