                                            LN – Fraction word problem

Learning objective: Students will learn to add and subtract fractions with

the same denominators to solve real-world problems.

               What Are Fractions?
A fraction represents a part of a whole. It has two parts:

o Numerator: The number of parts taken.

o Denominator: The total number of parts.

Key Steps to Solve Fraction Word Problems:

o Read the Problem Carefully: Understand what is being asked.

o Identify the Fractions: Note the fractions given in the problem.

o Find the Operation: Decide whether to add, subtract, multiply,
                              or divide the fractions.

o Solve the Problem: Use the appropriate method for the
                              operation.

Adding and Subtracting Fractions with Same Denominators:

o Keep the denominator the same.

o Add or subtract the numerators directly.

o Simplify the fraction if needed.

Steps for Fractions with Different Denominators:

o Find the least common denominator (LCD).

o Convert the fractions to have the same denominator.

o Perform the addition or subtraction.
