               SUB-TOPIC- Dussehra and Diwali





               LEARNING OBJECTIVE- To have a knowledge about Diwali and Dussehra.





               DISCUSSION-


               •  Durga Puja is one of India’s grandest festivals. It falls in the month of
                   September-October.


               •  The festival marks the victory of goddess Durga over Mahishasur.


               •  It is the victory of good over evil.


               •  It begins on the same day as Navratri, a nine- night festival celebrating
                   the divine goddess.


               •  People celebrate Navaratri by dancing Dandia dance and Garba.


               •  Worshipping Maa Durga begins on the sixth day and ends with
                   Vijayadasami on the tenth day, where the idols are immersed.


               •  Idol of the Goddess are placed at various pandals with decorations.


               •  Vijayadashami is also known as Dussehra and it is celebrated at the end
                   of Navaratri.


               •  Dussehra marks the victory of Rama over Ravana.


               •  It is on this day the effigies of Ravana is burnt with fireworks, marking

                   the evil’s destruction.

               •  Diwali is celebrated twenty days after Vijayadasami.
