majuscule) désigne l’ensemble du monde francophone, c’est-à-
dire les différents pays et régions où le français est la langue
maternelle ou d’usage (langue officielle, administrative, scolaire). Il
s’agit d’une expression géographique et d’un regroupement

géopolitique.

L’adjectif «francophone» désigne I ’ensemble des locuteurs qui
utilisent le français comme langue maternelle ou comme langue

d’usage.

Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), which takes place on March 20 each year.

The word "Francophonie" was created at the end of the 19th century by the geographer,
Onésime Reclus. La Francophonie (with a capital F) designates the entire French-speaking
world, that is to say the different countries and regions where French is the mother tongue or
language of use (official, administrative, school language). It is a geographical expression
and a geopolitical grouping.
