properties
LESSON NOTE
Homogeneous mixtures or solutions: These are the mixtures in which the components
are mixed completely with each other and are indistinguishable from one another.
Properties of homogeneous mixtures:
• They have a uniform composition throughout.
• They do not have visible boundaries of separation
• Examples: Salt solution, sugar solution, alloys
Heterogeneous mixtures: These are the mixtures in which the components remain
separate from each other and one component is spread throughout the other component
as droplets, small particles or bubbles.
Properties of heterogeneous mixtures:
• They do not have a uniform composition throughout its mass.
• They have visible boundaries of separation between the various components.
• Examples: Colloids: Fog, milk, starch solution
Suspensions: Sand and water, muddy water
