P. 2
In the we write the factors of 4
Arrange the terms to take common.
Here we have taken 2x as the common factor for both the term .
After the factorisation the final term is irreducible.
2. Highest common factors of algebraic terms:-
The highest common factor (HCF) of algebraic expressions is obtained in a
similar way to the method used for numbers.
The process is similar when you are asked to find the greatest common factor of two or more
monomials.
Simply write the complete factorization of each monomial and find the common factors. The
product of all the common factors will be the HCF.
For example, let's find the greatest common factor of 5xy and 10x are respectively,
5xy = 5 × x × y
10x = 2 × 5 × x
As we can see here in 5xy and 10x the common factors are 5 and x. So the HCF for 5xy and
10x is 5 × x = 5x
So 5x is the highest common factor of 5xy and 10x.
Example:-
욀
Solution:-
We know
(i)
Similarly: 욀
(ii)
From equation (i) & (ii) we get a common term 3ab
욀
(Ans)
욀
As you can see 3ab(4a + 5b) is irreducible.
Here is the greatest common factor or HCF of both the algebraic terms given
above.
