Even today there are accidents at construction sites, mines and factories
because of the callous attitude of the employers.
Enforcement of Safety Laws-:
The government is supposed to ensure that safety laws are implemented.
It is also the duty of the government is ensure that the Right to Life (Article 21)
of the Constitution is guarantees.
Safety laws violation in the Union Carbide Plant -:
(I) – The safety laws were weak in India.
(II) – These weak laws were not even enforced.
(III) – The government officials refused to recognize the plant as hazardous.
(IV) –They allowed it to come up in a populated locality.
(V) – When some municipal officials objected to the installation of the MIC plant the
position of the government was that it needed the investment and the jobs it created.
(VI) – It was unthinkable to have cleaner technology and safer producers.
(VII) – Government inspectors continued to approve the procedures of the plant even
when repeated incidents of leak had happened.
