Thyroid gland: - Thyroid is a large endocrine gland in the neck which produces
thyroxine. Thyroxine hormone controls rate of body’s metabolism. Its deficiency
causes goiter (swelling of throat).
Thyroid gland needs a constant supply of iodine in order to produce thyroxine hormone.
This iodine normally comes from the diet we eat. Since iodine is necessary for making
of thyroxine hormone, a deficiency of iodine in the diet can cause a deficiency of
thyroxine hormone in the body.
Adrenal gland: - There are two adrenal glands in our body which are located on
the top of two kidneys. It produces adrenalin. It helps the body to adjust to stress
when we are angry or worried.
Pancreas: - Pancreas is just below the stomach in our body. It produces insulin.
The function of insulin hormone is to lower the blood sugar level. Its deficiency
causes diabetes.
Testes: - Produces testosterone which controls production of sperms and
secondary sexual characters in males.
Ovary: - Produces estrogen which controls production of eggs and secondary
sexual characters in female.
