                                                     Lesson Notes


               Flora: The plants found in a particular area is called flora of that area. The flora of
               panchmarhi biosphere reserve includes Sal, Arjun, Wild mango, Silver fern, Jamun and
               Teak etc.


               Fauna: The animals and birds found in a particular area is called fauna of that area.
               The fauna of panchmarhi biosphere reserve includes Chinkara, blue bull, Wild dog,
               Leopard, Barking deer, Wolf, Indian giant squirrel, Flying squirrel and Bison etc.

               Species: Group of similar living organisms inter breed to produce fertile offspring.
               Members of a species have same characteristics. There are different species of plants
               and animals.

               Endemic species: The species of plants and animals found naturally in particular area
               are called endemic species of that area. Endemic species of Panchmarhi biosphere
               reserve are Silver fern, Sal, Arjun, Barasingha, Cheetal and Leopard etc.

               Endangered species: The population of a species decreasing day by day and May
               extinct in near future are called endangered species. Some of the endangered species
               are Royal Bengal tiger, Snow leopard, Asiatic lion, Gharial, Indian rhinoceros, Red
               panda, Vultures, Indian bustard, Malabar lily, Musli etc. We can protect them and
               prevent their extinction.

               Extinct species: The species found earlier but not existing now are called extinct
               species. Examples: Asiatic cheetah, Pink headed duck, Dodo, Dinosaurs etc. We
               cannot do anything for them.


               Project tiger: It is a wild life project launched by government of India to protect tiger
               population of our country which was decreasing day by day. It’s objective is to ensure
               the survival and maintenance of tiger population of our country .There are 28 tiger
               reserves across the country governed by project tiger and Satpura tiger reserve is one
               of them.
