Applications of Multiple reflection or images:
1. Kaleidoscope: It is instrument based on the principle of multiple reflection of light,
used to get different patterns.
It is used by designers to get ideas for beautiful patterns.
It can be made by placing three mirror strips at an angle of 60 with each other. One

end is sealed with butter paper and some broken glass pieces are put in. The other
end is sealed by a transparent sheet through which an observer can view the
different patterns by rotating the kaleidoscope.
2. Periscope: It is an instrument based on the principle of multiple reflection of light
used to view objects which are not in line of sight and cannot be viewed directly.
It is used in Submarines and Army bunkers.

It is made by placing two mirrors each at an angle of 45 with the line of sight and
the object respectively. The mirrors are parallel to each other. The light from the
object falls on the first mirror and reflected to the second mirror which is then
reflected towards the observer.
