Condition
Moisture Soil Air Temperature
When these conditions are optimum, the seeds germinate into a baby plant by using
the food stored in them.
Steps for germination
Step1-During the beginning stage of germination, the seeds take up water rapidly
and this water activates the enzymes present in the seeds which result in swelling
and softening of the seed coat at moderate temperature.
Step2-Upon germination, Enzymes are the substances that increase the rate of
biochemical reactions. They convert the stored food into a soluble form.
Step3-Seeds coat ruptures that help to emerge the radical (baby root) come out first
from the seed, followed by plumule (baby shoot) and the soluble food is then utilized
by the radical and plumule for growth.
Step4-The baby root slowly forms the root system of the plant, while the babyshoot
forms the shoot system.
