               Sexual mode of Reproduction

 Sexual reproduction in plants occurs through the fusion of gametes, which
eventually gives rise to seeds that develop into the new plant.
 Gametes are of two types- male gamete and female gamete.
 They are produced in special structures present inside the flower of a plant.
 The flower is the reproductive organ of a flowering plant.

               Structure of a flower

A flower consists of four Whorls.

               1. Sepals:-The green leaves-like structures in the outermost whorl of a flower are
               called sepals.

Function: - sepal protects the flower in its initial stages when it is in the form of flower
               buds.

               2. Petals:- The colourful parts of a flower are called petals. It is the second whorl of a
               flower.

Function:- Petals are used to attract insects for pollination.

               3. Stamen:- It is a male sex organ of a flower. It consists of two parts: - a filament
               and an anther.
