Sexual mode of Reproduction
Sexual reproduction in plants occurs through the fusion of gametes, which
eventually gives rise to seeds that develop into the new plant.
Gametes are of two types- male gamete and female gamete.
They are produced in special structures present inside the flower of a plant.
The flower is the reproductive organ of a flowering plant.
Structure of a flower
A flower consists of four Whorls.
1. Sepals:-The green leaves-like structures in the outermost whorl of a flower are
called sepals.
Function: - sepal protects the flower in its initial stages when it is in the form of flower
buds.
2. Petals:- The colourful parts of a flower are called petals. It is the second whorl of a
flower.
Function:- Petals are used to attract insects for pollination.
3. Stamen:- It is a male sex organ of a flower. It consists of two parts: - a filament
and an anther.
