Stock-The plant that has a well-developed and sturdy root system is used as
a stock
Scion-The other parts of a plant (generally a shoot of the plant) which is
grafted on to the stock is known as the scion.
The two parts are placed in such a way that their vascular tissue joins together to
grow as a single plant. Such that, the plant has root sturdiness of the stock and
desirable qualities of the scion. Examples- Rose, apple, pear, and guava.
3. Layering
In this, the stem of the plant is bent to the ground and covered with soil.
After sometime, roots start growing from the plant parts covered with the soil
and then separated from the original plants. This attached stem with
developing roots is known as a layer.
This method is used to reproduce plants such as jasmine and croton.
