Earthworms (Friend of farmers) ingest the soil and then excrete it out after
digesting the organic matter.
Worms help by burrowing the soil.
Ants, beetles, centipedes, rabbits and moles also live in the soil.
Soils and Crops:
The type of crops that can be grown depends on the type and properties of
the soil in that particular region.
Soil rich in humus supports proper growth of plants.
Cereals and vegetable crops are grown in clayey and loamy soil as they have
good water retaining capacity.
Paddy grows well in soil rich in clay due to its ideal water retaining capacity.
Pulses and lentils grow well in loamy soil.
Cotton is grown in black soil which has more sand content than loamy soil.
Cotton does not require excess water.
