Types of Soil:

Soil can be classified into three major categories on the basis of the size and
proportion of the particles present in it.

               Sandy Soil:

 This type of soil is formed from rocks like limestone, granite and shale.
 It contains more than 60% sand and less than 10% clay.
 Particles are easily visible and have a gritty structure.
 This soil can hold air but water-holding capacity is very less.
 This soil is not used for growing crops but it is used for construction of
                       buildings with cementing material.

               Clayey Soil:

 This soil contains about 60% clay and has fine particles.
 The water retaining capacity of the soil is high but it cannot hold air to help the
                       plant roots to breathe.
 It is used for pottery and making bricks.

               Loamy Soil:

 It contains 40% sand, 20% clay, 40% silt and humus.

 The size of the particles varies between that of sand and clay.
 This soil can hold air as well as water.
 It is the best soil for farming and gardening.
