               Properties of silk:

              Properties                                    Description

              Texture                                       Soft, smooth & lustrous.
              Strength                                      Strongest natural fibre.
              Absorption of moisture                        The absorptive capacity of silk fabric
                                                            makes comfortable apparel even for
                                                            warmer atmosphere.
              Insulating nature                             Cool to wear in summer and warm to use
                                                            in summer
              Cleanliness and washability                   Silk fabric does not attract dirt because of
                                                            its smooth surface.







                 Quality of silk depends on following factors as follows:


                   1.  Types of silk worm& quality of mulberry leaves feed to silk worm.
                   2.  Raw material quality: Cocoon characteristics like race, size, shape, built,
                       reliability, filament denier, length, etc.
                   3.  Processing parameters adopted for stifling, cooking, reeling and re-
                       reeling.
                   4.  . Machinery or devices: Machinery / devices used for drying, cooking,
                       reeling and re-reeling processes

                   5.  Water quality: Water source, and water’s characteristics
                   6.  Human skill: Human skill involved in manual and mechanical operations
