X-RAYS
• It possible to see the image of bones in living beings using radiation known
as X-rays.
• X-rays are special rays that can pass through the soft tissue but not through
the bones. Hence an image is created that reveals the nature of the bones.
• Bones are seen as white shapes against the black background.
• X rays are used to see bone injuries and also to detect cracks in metals and
even at the airports for luggage inspection.
WONDER BOX
• Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, a German physicist discovered X-ray accidentally, in
1895.
• For his work, he received the First Nobel Prize in physics in 1901.
