Biodegradable waste:
Waste that can be decomposed by microorganisms (decomposers) that are present
inside the soil and air is called biodegradable waste.
Such wastes decompose quickly finally get mixed with the soil.
All waste derived from living matter are biodegradable waste.
Vegetable and fruit peels, animal and plant remains are all biodegradable waste.

               Non-biodegradable waste:
Waste that cannot be decomposed into simpler substances by decomposers is called
               non- biodegradable waste.
They do not breakdown and merge with the nature and so they are dangerous for living
               creatures.
All waste generated from non-living matter is non- biodegradable waste.
Plastic, glass, metal articles are non- biodegradable waste.

               Waste Segregation:
Waste segregation is the first step in managing waste. The methods of disposal for
biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste are different. So we should use separate
               bins for them.
Leftover food, fruit and vegetable peels, decaying food items are biodegradable waste.
These are compostable waste. They should be collected in green coloured bins.
Recyclable waste like plastic, metal and glass are collected in blue coloured bins.
Used batteries and syringes, expired medicines are toxic waste. They should be
collected separately in red coloured bins.
