Lesson Notes
Water Vapour
❖ We know that water evaporates from the surface of the water bodies and forms
water vapour.
❖ The composition of water vapour varies from place to place, region to region, and
season to season. For example, the concentration of water vapour is more in
coastal regions.
❖ Coastal places such as Chennai and Mumbai have more water vapour in the air,
whereas places such as Rajasthan have a lesser amount of water vapour in the
air.
❖ Presence of water vapour is more during the monsoon season.
❖ The amount of water vapour present in the air is known as humidity. The
presence of water vapour in the air is important for the continuation of the water
cycle in nature.
Water Cycle
The water cycle shows the continuous movement of water within the earth and the
atmosphere. Liquid water evaporates into water vapour rises and condenses to form
clouds, and precipitates back to earth in the form of rain and snow.
Activity –
To show that air contains water vapour.
Materials Required – a glass tumbler, ice, tray.
