P. 2

Air occupies space-

Activity to prove that air occupies space

Materials required- a tub, a glass tumbler, water.

Method-Take an empty glass tumbler and then try to turn the tumbler upside down
and immerse in the tub filled with water.

Then bend the glass tumbler and do the same.

Observation- In first-time water is not able to enter whereas when we bend the glass,
air bubbles come out and water enters in it.

                                                                   st
Inference- Air occupies space that is why in the 1 case water is not able to enter.

Air is odourless and tasteless- Air does not have a colour, odour and any taste.

Pure air doesn’t have any smell, it is the presence of some other substances that
imparts an odour/fragrance to the air.
