Surface water:
 Water present on the Earth’s surface in the form of oceans, river, Lake, pond
and stream is called surface water.
 The water in rivers and lakes comes from rain and snow melting on mountains.
 Some sources of surface water are also filled by underground aquifers.
 Surface water accounts for 80% of the water we use.
               Ice caps and glaciers:
 About 70% of Earth's fresh water is locked in Glacier and polar caps.

 The Siachen Glaciers in India in one of the glaciers.

               Ocean water:
 Almost all the rivers eventually flow into the ocean. Thus, river water is a
source of water for the oceans.
 Ocean water make up nearly 97% of the entire water present on the earth.
 It is not a viable source of potable water because it contains salt and other
                       impurities.
 Common salt is obtained by the evaporation of sea water on a large scale.
