Example 1: Dyna can swim 100 m in 3 min 15 sec and Anuj in 2 min 55
sec. Who is faster and by how much time?
Answer: Time taken by Dyna to swim 100 m = 3 min 15 seconds
Time taken by Anuj to swim 100 m = 2 min 55 seconds
We observe that Anuj takes less time as compared to Dyna, so Anuj is
faster.

Step 1: 15 sec < 55 seconds
So borrow 1 minute from 3 and change it into minutes.
We know, 60 seconds = 1 minute.
60 seconds + 15 seconds = 75 seconds
Subtract seconds.
75 seconds – 55 seconds = 20 seconds
Step 2: Subtract minutes.
2 hours – 2 hours = 0
Therefore, Anuj is faster by 20 seconds from Dyna.
