P. 2

Example 2: What is the value of B in given problem?

                              49 hours 30 minutes = B hours 90 minutes

In order to get the answer we need to do the following steps:

Step 1: In both the sides of the problem, we have the values of minutes.

Step 2: The value of minutes in Left Hand Side (LHS) of the problem is smaller

than that in Right Hand Side (RHS).

                        30 minutes < 90 minutes

We know that, 60 minutes = 1 hour

Now we have more 1 hour in LHS,

                              49 hours 30 minutes

                                                = 48 hours + 1 hour + 30 minutes

                                                = 48 hours + 60 minutes + 30 minutes

                                                = 48 hours + 90 minutes

                                                = 48 hours 90 minutes.

Therefore, the required answer is 48.

Example 3: What is the value of x in given problem?

                              x hours 20 minutes = 4 hours 80 minutes

In order to get the answer we need to do the following steps:

Step 1: In both the sides of the problem, we have the values of minutes.

Step 2: The value of minutes in Left Hand Side (LHS) of the problem is smaller

than that in Right Hand Side (RHS).

                        20 minutes < 80 minutes

                                                                                                  Page | 2
