Notes:
In 1498 Vasco Da Gama, a Portuguese explorer, was the first to discover the
sea route to India from Europe by sailing around Africa.
The Dutch came to India after the Portuguese.
In 1600, the British came to India and established trade centres.
The British signed a treaty with the Mughal Emperor Jahangir to set up
more trading centres.
In 1644, the French established their trading centres in Pondicherry.
The British defeated the French and gained profits; they misused the
facilities granted by the Mughal rulers.
