                 II.    WATER POLLUTION



                 Contamination of water with harmful substances is known as Water
                   pollution.


                 Water pollution is caused when pollutants from factories, power plants and
                   oil wells are discharged directly into the water bodies.

                 Industrial waste and household waste released into water bodies are the

                   major sources of water pollution.
