P. 5
6. MAGNETIC FORCE
The force by which a magnet attracts magnetic materials is known as magnetic force.
For example, when we take some iron nails and spread them on a piece of paper then
bring a magnet close to them, the iron nails are attracted to the magnet. This occurs
because a magnet attracts certain materials such as iron. These materials are known as
magnetic materials.
7. BUOYANT FORCE
Buoyant force is the upward push of water on a floating object. It is defined as the
upward force exerted by a fluid on an object when it is placed in the fluid. When we
push a mug or piece of wood in water, we can feel an upward thrust.
For example: If we take an empty plastic bottle and close its mouth with an airtight cap.
Then we will try to push this bottle in a bucket filled with water. We will observe that a
force pushes the bottle in the bucket upwards. This is due to buoyant force.
