 MUSCLES

 The movement of our body does not take place because of bones alone.
Muscles also play a significant role.
 Muscle is a fibrous tissue in the body which has ability to contract.
 Some muscles are attached to the bones. When these muscles contract
and relax, they help the bones to move.
 Muscles are attached to the bones with the help of tissues called
                       tendons.
 Muscles which are not attached to our bones help in various life

processes such as digestion, respiration and circulation.

                    TYPES OF MUSCLES

There are mainly 3 types of muscles found in our body:

               1. Voluntary muscles
 The muscles whose movement is under our control are known as
                       Voluntary muscles.
 We can control the movement of the muscles attached to our skeleton
as per our will. Hence, these are voluntary in nature.
 They are also known as skeletal muscles because all of the muscles

                       attached to the skeleton.

               2. Involuntary muscles
 The muscles whose movement is not under our control are known as
                       involuntary muscles.
 For example, the muscles in the walls of the stomach, intestine and

lungs function on their own. These muscles are therefore involuntary in
                       nature.
 They are also known as smooth muscles.

               3. Cardiac muscles
 These muscles are present only in our heart. They contract and relax
                       continuously.
