Sub topic – Elapsed Time
Elapsed time in simple terms is the amount of time that passes from the start of
an event to its end. It is also called as time interval.
Example 1: A short film show started at 6:45 a.m. and ended at 7:30 a.m.
Find the duration of the film show.
Answer: Time duration is equal to the time interval between 6:45 a.m. and 7: 30
a.m. Here both the times are given in a.m.
We know, 60 seconds = 1 minute.
Hour Min
6 90
7 30
-
6 45
45
Step 1: 30 min< 45 min
So borrow 1 hour from 7 and change it into minutes.
60 minutes + 30 minutes = 90 minutes
Subtract minutes.
90 minutes – 45 minutes = 45 minutes
Step 2: Subtract hours.
6 hours – 6 hours = 0
Therefore, required answer is 45 minutes.
