 The President is the first citizen of the country.

State Government
State government makes laws for the state and takes care of requirements like
healthcare, education and the growth of agriculture.

 The members of legislative assembly are directly elected by the people of
that state for five years. It makes laws and runs the government at the state

level.
 The Governor is the head of the state. She/he is appointed by the president

of India.
 The Chief Minister is the head of the administration of the state. She/he is

assisted by several ministers.

Local Governments

 The municipal corporation and municipal councils look after the basic needs

of the cities and towns.
 The gram sabha and gram panchayats look after the needs of the villages.

Courts

 Supreme Court of India is the highest court of justice in our nation.
 High Court is the highest court at the state level.

 There are small courts in every district known as district courts.
