NOTES:
1. LEVER: A lever is a straight rod that is fixed at one point
and helps to move or lift an object from the other end.
Examples: scissors, hammer, a bottle opener, see-saw
2. PULLEY: A pulley is made up of a grooved wheel and a
rope around it.
Examples: trolley, cranes
3. INCLINED PLANE: An inclined plane is a slanted
surface connecting a lower level to a higher level that is
used to lift or bring a load down.
Examples: slides, stair, ramps
4. SCREW: Screw is an inclined plane that is wound
around a cylindrical rod. One side of the rod is flat and is
used to rotate the screw. The other side is pointed.
Screws are used to attach things together like planks of
wood.
Example: screw
5. WEDGE: A wedge is formed by joining two inclined
planes at their bases, to form a sharp edge.
Example: axe, knife
6. WHEEL AND AXLE : A wheel with a rod attached to its
centre is called wheel and axle. If we turn the wheel, the axle
attached to the wheel also turns.
Examples: cycles, sewing machines, door knob
