NOTES :

                       Matter:
                   • Anything that occupies space and has mass is known as matter.
                   • Matter makes up all the things around us.
                   • For example: We see different objects around us such as book, pen, pencil, bed,
chair, table, etc. They are all made of matter. Sun, moon and stars are also made up
of matter. Matter itself is made of millions of very small particles.

                   • Matter can exist in three states.

                                    Solids, Liquids and Gases

                      Solid:

                   • Solids are hard and rigid.
                   • Solids have fixed shape.
                   • Solids have fixed volume.
                   • Solids cannot flow.
                   • Solids can’t be compressed.

In solids, the particles are packed very close to each other and cannot move freely. Thus,
particles in solids have very little or no space between them.As a result, solids are hard, rigid
and cannot be compressed. They have a fixed shape and occupy a fixed volume

               Examples of solids:

               book , chalk, table, pencil
