A contraction is a shortened form of a word
which can be joined to another word.
The shortened form of words and the words
formed by joining the shortened form to
another word are known as contractions.
English has a number of contractions in which
the vowel is skipped and replaced by an
apostrophe (’) in writing. These contractions
are commonly used in speech and in informal
writing.
The verbs which are often contracted are: am,
is, are, has, have, will and would.
