3. Government’s Support System for Encouraging Entrepreneurs
(i) Small Industries Institution (SISI): It was established in 1956. This institute, one in each state
, has been rendering very useful service to SSI by providing them with technical consultancy and
advisory service, common facility service, training facilities, testing facilities and marketing
assistance.
(ii) Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO): It is an apex policy-making,
coordinating and monitoring agency for the development of small scale entrepreneurs. It
provides a comprehensive range of consultancy services and technical, managerial, economic
and marketing assistance to SSI units.
(iii) Entrepreneurship Development Institution of India (EDII): It is an autonomous body and a
not-for-profit institution, set up in 1983 in Gujarat and is engaged in entrepreneurship
education, research and training.
(iv) Rural Entrepreneurship Development Institute (REDI): The main purpose of REDI is to
promote entrepreneurship and create self-employment avenues in rural areas.
(v) National small Industries Corporation (NSIC): It was set up in 1955 with the objective of
supplying machinery and equipment to small enterprises on a hire-purchase basis and assisting
them in procuring government orders for various items of store.
(vi) National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (NIMSME): This institute is an
organization of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, formed to play a pivotal
role in the promotion of small enterprises.
