very comfortable discussing the matter with him.

· Even though Frank is easy in his attitude, he is not of the kind who will appreciate sarcasm on
fellow teachers.
· He quickly points out to Taplow when he get too carried away mocking Crocker Harris.

Taplow's wait for his teacher

A student of 16 ,called by his teacher Crocker Harris to do some extra work.Teacher hasn't
aarrived.Mr.Frankfinds Taplow waiting,starts talking about Crocker Harris,Taplow says thathe
doesn't tell the results as other teachers do.
Teacher student discussion

Mr Frank ,a science teacher asks Taplow about his future studies, boy replies that he will study
science ,it is more exciting. Taplow is sad for his stay in school,Mr Frank mocks Taplow ,he will get
his remove but he is not sure about it.He praises Mr Crocker as a person of his own rules.

Views About Mr. Crocker
Taplowasks Mr. Crocker about giving the remove the previous day – Teacher indicates - had given
him exactly what he deserved. Boy imitates Crocker Harris.

Mr.Frank tells him to have patience -tells him to go and play golf as his teacher is ten minute late-
Taplow replies with shocked expression that he cannot cut his Mr. Crocker otherwise he would
follow him home.

Comments of Mr. Frank

He indicates that Mr,Crocker has scared all the students-Taplowdenies saying ,he is not a sadist like
some other masters -praises Mr Frankdifferent nature.

Taplowpraises Mr Crocker-Harris -he isn’t a sadist – he is all shrivelled up inside like a nut and seems
to hate people to like him–tells that inspite of everything he likes him – gives an example of his own
class – how nobody had laughed on a classical joke made by Crocker Harris because nobody
understood it – he laughed out of ordinary common politeness and feeling sorry for him for having
made a poor joke.

Arrival of Millie Crocker-Harris

Millie ,wife of Crocker Harris arrives- stands and watches Taplow and Frank – both a bit scared – if
she has heard them– Taplowis worried about his remove –Millie asks Taplow if he has been waiting
for her husband- tells him that he has been at the Bursar's – might take some time – requests
Taplow to bring some medicines –agrees to take the blame if Mr. Crocker appears in between.
