Democracy Political Outcome of Democracy:
produces an Accountable Form of Government
accountable, i. Democracy is based on the idea of deliberation and negotiation

Government people and more effective
Responsive Government:
i. Democratic government is accountable and responsive to the needs and
expectations of the citizens.
ii. It ensures participation of citizens in decision making. Democracy is
based on the idea of deliberation and negotiation. So decision making
may take some time but still its decisions will be more acceptable and
effective for the people.
iii. In democracy, decision making is based on norms and procedures, so
every citizen has a privilege and right to examine the process of decision
making through RTI. It is termed as transparency.
iv. Following practices and institutions of check the expected outcome of a
democracy.
a) Regular, force and fair elections
b) Open public debate on major policies and legislatures
c) Citizen’s right to information about the governments and its functioning
Democratic government is legitimate government as it ensures that people
have right to choose their rulers and people have right to control over rulers.
Legitimate government.
i. It may be slow, less efficient, not always very responsive or clean. But a
democratic government is people’s own government.
ii. There is an overwhelming support for the idea of democracy all over the
world. People wish to be ruled by representatives elected by them, in
countries with democratic regimes as well as countries without
democratic regimes. For example in South Asia, major countries
preferred democracy over dictatorship.
