Ecosystem Structure

Biotic Components

(i) Producers – They are green plants, blue-green algae, some bacteria and free-floating
autotrophic organisms. All of them possess chlorophyll and can perform photosynthesis.

Functions
 Producers trap solar energy and change the same into chemical energy.
 Provide food and its contained energy to the other biotic components.
 They initiate food chains.

(ii) Consumers – They are of four types – herbivores, carnivores, omnivores and parasites.
