22.1 What are Aquatic Animals?



          Learning Objective: - The students will be aware of the aquatic animals.




          Note:


               The world under water always fascinated everyone.


               Aquatic means relating to water, living in or near water.

                Many kinds of animals live in water. Some live in fresh water like rivers, lakes, ponds.

                Others live in the salty water sea and oceans.


               An Aquatic animal is an animal which lives in water for most or all of its life. They are

                 cold  –  blooded  means  their  internal  body  temperature  changes  as  the  surrounding

                 temperature changes.

               They have excellent sense of sight, touch, taste and many have a good sense of smell


                 and hearing.

               The bodies of most water animals are shaped like boats.

               This helps them to swim fast inside water.

               Some fish breathe oxygen through their special organ known as gills.


               Some aquatic animals come up to the surface of water to breathe air.

               Water is their home, they also get food inside water. Most of the water animals cannot

                 breathe air or live outside water for a long period.



          Learning Outcome: -Students can tell about the aquatic animals.
