20.4  ANIMAL’S FOOD


               Learning objective:-students will learn that animals are divided according to
               their food habit.

               Note:-


                     Like us, animals also need food to stay alive. Animals spend most of
                       their time in search of food. Food habit of all animals is different.

                      Some animals eat meat, so they hunt for small creature some are
                       dependent upon plants, seeds or suck liquids.

                      Animals use different part of their bodies to eat their food, which
                       includes sharp teeth, sticky tongues, tough beaks and strong claws.

                     According to food habit animals can be divided into 3 groups.


                              1)Carnivores (flesh eating animal)

                              2)Herbivores (plant eating animals)

                              3)Omnivores (animals eating both flesh and plants)


                     Carnivores:-Animals those who hunt other animals and eat their flesh
                       are called carnivores. They are also called as flesh eating animals. For
                       e.g. – Lion, tiger, wolf, hyena.

                     Herbivores:-Animals those who eat only plants are called herbivores.
                       They are also called as plant eating animals. For e.g. - cow, elephant

                       deer, horse .giraffe, zebra etc.
                     Omnivores:-Animals those who eat both plants and animals are called

                       omnivores. Fore.g. - fox, bear, cat, lizard etc.


               Learning outcome- Students will now be able to group animals according to
               their food habit.
