16.2 SHADOWS AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF A DAY

Learning Objective- Students will learn that shadows are of different
size at different time of the day.

                 Note:

 At different times of the day our shadow will be different because of the
                       position of the Sun.

 In the morning and evening our shadow will be tall where as in the noon
                       shadow will be small.

 In the morning and evening the sun rays are slanting so the shadow is
                       long.

 In the noon the Sun is above our head so our shadows are short.

 The size of the shadow depends on the position of the object from the

                       source of light.

 In ancient time when there was no clock, people used the direction of the
shadow of a pole to tell the time of the day. It was called a sundial.

Learning outcome- Students can tell about the formation and size of

shadows during different times of the day.
