15.4 GOING TO SPACE
Learning objective/Aim –The child will be able to know about going to
space.
Note
The area outside the earth is the space. In space, there are various
celestial objects like planets, meteors, stars etc. These meteors are
what ‘fall’ from the sky. Space is a quiet place. No one can hear
you in space, no matter how hard you scream.
There is no air in space it is just like a vacuum, in this empty space
neither can sound waves travel nor could the sunlight be
scattered. We cannot sit or walk around we can only float in
space.
Not only this, but they also have to catch the floating packets
of water and food in the spaceship! This is because of the lack of
the gravitational pull in space. On earth, when we throw
something up it comes down because of gravitational force.
However, in space, there is no such force. Therefore, things
float. Note: an astronaut is properly trained to travel to space by
spacecraft.
There are many astronauts who have been to space.
From India, we have great astronauts who have travelled up to
space in a spacecraft. Some of them include KalpanaChawla and
Rakesh Sharma.
Learning outcome –The children will be able to speak about the
space.
