Unit-15
Collective nouns
Learning objective : Students will be able to know what are
collective nouns and they will learn some collective nouns.
Explanation:
A collective noun is the name of a collection of people, animals
or things that can be spoken about as a whole or group.
Collective nouns are words that describe a group of people,
things or animals.
A collective noun is a collection of things taken as a whole.
The word “group” cannot be applied to every collection of
nouns. We cannot say group of keys or group of stars and so
on… Therefore, there are special names for each group of
different nouns.
Example- a bunch of keys,
a herd of elephants
a galaxy of stars
a bouquet of flowers
Here, bunch, herd, galaxy and bouquet are some collective nouns.
Learning outcome: Students can know what are collective nouns
and they will learn some collective nouns.
