MIND MAP
Transitive verbs:
can be recognized by two main characteristics. They:
are action verbs (express an activity: e.g. eat, read, wash)
Transitive verb always takes a direct object
+ TRANSITIVE + DIRECT OBJECT
VERB
Eg- Thud(subject) sneezed(action verb) on Snub(direct object). Sneezed- Transitive verb
DO(DIRECT OBJECT- Snub (as Snub receives the action)
Intransitive doesn’t take object.
INTRANSITIVE
__
NO OBJECT
VERB
Eg- Thud(subjects) sneezed(not an action verb) loudly. . Sneezed- Intransitive verb NO
OBJECT (no one receives the action)
Direct objects follow the subject – verb clause, and answer the questions Who/ Whom? and What?
Here is a simple formula:
SUBJECT + VERB + What/Who/Whom = DIRECT OBJECT
On whom did Thud sneeze?
Snub- Direct object
