CHAPTER 6: REPRODUCTION IN PLANTS
TOPIC – METHODS OF SEED DISPERSAL
Methods of seed dispersal
Have you ever wondered if all the seeds germinate at the same place and the baby plants grow close the
parent plant? Will all of them will be able to grow properly?
If the parent plant and the baby plant will grow very close to each other, then both the plants will not get
enough nutrients to grow the produce fruits. Hence seeds of a plant must be scattered in different
directions to ensure that they grow away from each other.
However, plants cannot move from one place to another. So the seeds scatter or disperse.
Seed dispersal is the movement, spread or transport of seeds away from the parent plant.
