Our earth is made of rocks and minerals.
Rocks are constantly being formed, worn down and formed again.
Rocks broken down into smaller pieces forms sand.
Sand with the decomposition of plants and animals forms the soil.
ROCKS
Rocks are naturally formed solids made up of one or more minerals.
Some rocks contain only one mineral while others have many minerals.
The branch of science that deals with the origin, composition, texture and structure of
rocks is known as Petrology.
MINERALS
Minerals are substances that are formed naturally in the earth and are the building
blocks of rocks. E.g. gold, salt.
