What is photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants prepare their own
food by using carbon dioxide and water in the presence of
chlorophyll and sunlight.
The word photosynthesis comes from two words:
‘photo’ means light
‘synthesis’ means to put things together
Why is photosynthesis important? - Photosynthesis is
important to all living organisms because oxygen is produced by
this process. The food prepared in the leaves is transported to
different parts of the plants through the stem and branches. They
use this food for their growth and development. The extra food is
stored in the form of starch in different parts of the plant, like the
root, stem, fruits and leaves, which is edible for animals and
human beings.
