Example:
There are 9 packets of pencils, each containing 100 pencils. How many pencils are there in all?
Solution:
In 1 packet = 100 pencils 1 0 0
In 9 packets = 100 x 9 =900 pencils × 9
= 9 0 0
Thus, there are 900 pencils in all
Assessment
a) You need 12 apples to make a pie. How many apples will you need to make 12 pies?
b) There are 119 trees in a row. How many trees will be there in 19 such rows?
c) While travelling, Amit noticed bus stops at a gap of 2 km each.
If he counted 75 bus stops, how far did he travel?
