CH-3: TOPIC – ENTREPRENEURSHIP JOURNEY
SUB-TOPIC: - ROLE OF SOCIETY AND FAMILY IN GROWTH OF AN ENTREPRENEUR
AND CHALLENGES FACED BY WOMEN IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP:
1. Entrepreneurship is the outcome of the interaction between several social,
demographic and family variables. These variables may be classified as
follows:
(i) Personal Characteristics: These consist of age, marital status, caste,
religion, education and technical qualification.
(ii) Family Background: People belonging to mercantile families can
more easily enter business. They learn the basic business skills
through continuous interaction with parents, employees, visitors and
customers in family shops, offices and homes.
(iii) Socio Cultural Factors: Political and economic ideologies and legal
structure in some countries encourage free enterprise. Another
factor that affects entrepreneurship is social mobility.
2. Women Entrepreneur:
A women entrepreneur can be defined as a confident, innovative and
creative woman capable of achieving self economic independence.
An enterprise owned and controlled by a woman having a minimum
investment/share of 51% of the capital is known as women
enterprise.
3. The Major challenges and Barriers in the path of women entrepreneurs
are:
(i) Women generally lack confidence in their own capabilities.
(ii) Women entrepreneurs face serious problems in obtaining finance.
(iii) In our society, more importance is given to educating the male child
as compared to female child.
