2005 (MGNREGA 2005)
MGNREGA 2005 is an Indian labour law and social security measure that aims
to guarantee the right to work’. This act was passed in September 2005.
MGNREGA 200G was implemented in 625 districts of India. Based on this pilot
experience, MGNREGA 2005 was scoped up to cover all the districts of India
from 1 April 2008.
All those who are able to, and are in need of, work is guaranteed 100 days of
employment in a year by the government.
If government fails in its duty to provide employment, it will give unemployment
allowances to the people.
Another aim of MGNREGA is to create durable assets (such as roads, canals,
ponds and wells).
MGNREGA is to be implemented mainly by gram panchayats.
MGNREGA can help in protecting the environment, empowering rural women,
reducing rural-urban migration and fostering social equity, among others.
